AAD programs have given thousands of children a life-changing summer camp experience, screened millions of people for skin cancer, provided hundreds of shade structure grants, and more! • “The opportunity to reach out as a specialty group and make a difference for others centers me and reminds me why I pursued medicine.” – Karolyn Wanat, MD, Dermatology in Action volunteer
  • "During a time of continuous and deep cuts to school budgets, the shade structure grant was a little ray of hope for us!" – Eva Fogg, Westwood Charter Elementary School, one of 264 shade structure grant recipients

Dermatology in Action
was created to promote volunteerism and goodwill, and to demonstrate compassion within the specialty, including giving back to the communities that host the Annual and Summer Academy Meetings. At the 2012 Annual Meeting in San Diego, Calif., hands-on volunteers painted the interior of a residential building. Learn about future projects or donate now!

The Academy is supporting efforts by the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS) to prevent skin cancer among albinos in sub-Saharan Africa by providing them with hats and other sun-protective items through the Regional Dermatology Training Center in Moshi, Tanzania.
